Florist presents program to retired teacher organization Members of the Wharton County Retired Teachers met Wednesday morning, March 5 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall in East Bernard. The meeting was called to order by President Henriette Jalowy. Pledges to the United States and Texas flags were recited. Fifty members and a guest were present. Michael Thigpen of El Campo was introduced as a new member. Minutes from the previous meeting presented by Secretary Dana Riley were approved as read. The treasurer's report prepared by Donald Lorfing was also approved. Committee reports were given. Dee Calvo, Gracie Schatz, Betty Ann Parma, Jeannette Macha, Irene Mullins and Janet Marek all reported on their various committees. Peter Johnston of East Bernard spoke briefly to the retired teachers. He is a candidate for the Texas State School Board. Lisa Bubela of Flowers Etc. & Gifts, Inc. in El Campo gave an informative program on decorating for Easter and spring. Bubela made and decorated an Easter basket and gave it as a door prize. It was won by Kanzetta Allen of Hungerford. The next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 2 in El Campo at the Christ Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 1401 Ave. I. A program on osteoporosis and diabetes will be presented by Dr. Laurie Hulsman. |
