Carol Barber

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Carol D. Barber, 81, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2008 with her family at her side.

Carol was born on Dec. 26, 1926 to Henry Joseph and Madge B. Ducote in Cottonport, La.

Her favorite pastimes were family and friends. She was a caregiver and loved "Summer Camp" for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a great seamstress, decorator, gardener and loved fashion.

She was a member of the Garden Club of Victoria in her early years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Campo where she served on the floral committee. She was the bookkeeper at "Care Shop" when her daughter owned the business. She taught exercise classes at Prairie Village when it first opened.

She belonged to the "Triad" and the Senior Citizens Center of Midwest City Oklahoma during her stay with her sister before moving back to El Campo.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Slaughter and husband Calvin of El Campo; grandchildren, Cole Slaughter and wife Lisa of Glen Flora, Craig Slaughter and wife Tina of Tres Palacios and Carrie Drapela and husband Billy of El Campo; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ashley Slaughter, Riley Todd, Chelsea, Caitlyn, Cameron and Cade Slaughter, Amy, Robert and Landon Drapela; brother, H.J. Ducote and wife Wilma of Port Arthur; and sister, Edith Edwards of Midwest City, Okla.

Her parents; husband, Royce Barber; sister, Madge Prentiss; and brother, Blake Ducote preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers were Billy Drapela, Robert Drapela, Landon Drapela, Cole Slaughter, Craig Slaughter, Stacy Edwards, Stevie Edwards, and Mathew Vogle.

Memorials in memory of Carol D. Barber may be made to Hospice Support, Inc. or to the First Baptist Church of El Campo.
