Olivia St. or Oliva?
IMUD to decide
By BRENDA SOMMER bsommer@leader-news.com

Naming is the name of the game when the Isaacson Municipal Utility District's board meets tomorrow night.

The directors' short agenda includes talk on the name of Olivia Street, a crossroad in the district, which abuts the northeastern city limits of El Campo.

"The City of El Campo says that the name was always suppose to be Oliva; however, our signs and maps showed Olivia," IMUD manager Wanda Evanicky said.

"The city changed the signs on their side and ours, so now it's a big confused mess. The 9-1-1 Rural Addressing System is changing some of the people on Olivia Street's addresses to Oliva and some have stayed Olivia.

"The post office is confused, we are confused and there are several other offices involved."

Evanicky wasn't sure what sort of action, if any, the board would take on the matter.

"As I understand, the streets in IMUD were named after Mr. Isaacson's family members and this one was named Olivia, not Oliva," she said.

"The signs have been there since 1943, at least, so I am really at a loss as to why they were changed so suddenly."

The board will also discuss and take action on the district's proposed "Yard of the Month" contest and its holiday schedule.

IMUD's board of directors will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13 at the district's office at 403 N. Liberty.

The meeting is open to the public.
