Aquatic Center Spring Break Schedule

The El Campo Aquatic Center is extending its hours for Spring Break, set for March 16-20. The ECAC will be closed Monday, March 16 as usual, and on Easter Sunday. Hours Tuesday through Friday are 6-11 a.m. and 1-7 p.m. and Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 1-6 p.m.

'Heating It Up For Hospice' Cook Off 'Heating It Up For Hospice' Barbecue Cook-off continues today, Saturday, March 15 at Muldoon's Saloon, 110 Railroad in El Campo. Saturday includes a 5K 'Stride & Stroll/Kid Fun Run.' Register at 8 a.m. and start at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. for 12 and under. Motorcycle 'Fun Run' will be Saturday, March 15. Registration is 11 a.m. and first bike out at 12 noon. Call Claudia Raun at 578-0314 for more information.

Community Wide Clothing Benefit The first annual community-wide clothing benefit is Saturday, March 15 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. If you or your family are in need of clothes to wear, go by the El Campo Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 311 E. Calhoun. The gently-used clothing is free. This event is organized by our community's 'HOPE after Shattered Dreams' Ministry Support Group.

Easter Eggstravaganza Beta Theta Omega's 5th Annual Easter Eggstravaganza is Saturday, March 15 from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. at Evans Park in El Campo. Come meet the Easter Bunny. In addition, the event features live bunnies and chicks, face painting, egg hunting, favors, refreshments and lots of spring picture opportunities. Cost is $5 per child. Proceeds benefit local students in the form of academic scholarships.

Appreciation Service For Edwards Holy Temple Church of God in Christ of Louise hosts an appreciation service for Elder Darnell Edwards and Sister Irma Jean Edwards for celebrating 16 years of service Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. B. Sanford.

Easter Egg Hunt/Spring Carnival New Life Assembly of God Church, 707 Earl hosts its First Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Carnival Sunday, March 16 after morning services, approximately 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold for games and food plates are $4, (hot-dog, chips and a drink). Bring the kids and their baskets for a day of fun.

Taiton Community Easter Egg Hunt Taiton Community Center's Easter Egg Hunt and hamburger supper is Sunday, March 16 at 4:30 p.m. Open to members and their guests. If your children are too old, bring your grandkids. For information call A.J. Kresta at 541-3140.

American Legion & Auxiliary Meeting American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its Ladies Auxiliary hold their 89th birthday party Tuesday, March 18 in the new hall beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 7:15 p.m. Ladies Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts.

BBQ On A Bun Fundraiser The International Order of Rainbow for Girls is having a barbecue on a bun fundraiser Wednesday, March 19 from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. Chopped Beef, Chips, Onions, Pickles and Dessert for $5. Rotary Fish Fry, Auction March 20 El Campo Rotary Club members are out selling $100 raffle tickets to help fund the club's many projects that help make El Campo a great place to live and work. Prizes include gift cards valued at $20,000, $2,000 and $1,000. Seafood dinner tickets (eat in or take out) for the Thursday, March 20 event are $8.50 each. Serving is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Evening includes a live and silent auction, and $5 raffle. This is Rotary's only fundraiser each year. Tickets are available from any Rotarian, or at the LeaderNews office M-F, 8-5.

Cholesterol Screening at ECMH El Campo Memorial Hospital's lab offers various blood screenings Thursday, March 20. Call 979-578-5185 for an appointment; space is limited. Do not eat or drink for 12 hours before screening. Cholesterol/triglyceride test is $5, HDL, LDL and triglyceride is $10 and the HDL, LDL, triglyceride and glucose test is $15.

Easter Bake Sale Lifesavers Relay for Life Team hosts an Easter Bake Sale Thursday, March 20 at Mid Coast Medical Clinic, Sandy Corner Road at 8 a.m. until sold out. We'll do your Easter baking!

EC Chamber Closed Good Friday In observance of the holiday - Friday, March 21 Good Friday - the El Campo Chamber of Commerce will be closed.

First Christian Church Holy Week Schedule First Christian Church hosts Reflections on the Cross on Good Friday, March 21 from 12:15-12:45 p.m. at the church, Fahrenthold and West streets, directly behind Commercial State Bank. Sandwich and soup lunch is available before and after the service. There is no charge for the lunch. On Saturday March 22 a Easter Egg Hunt will be enjoyed by the children at 10 a.m. at the church. Children are asked to bring one dozen wrapped candy eggs to share. Easter Sunday, March 23 they will have a community sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. at Evans Park in downtown El Campo. Bad weather location will be the Fellowship Hall at the church. Following will be a pancake breakfast beginning at 8:20 a.m. at the Fellowship Hall. Bible School at 9:30 a.m. and worship and communion at 10:40 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Louise Band Host Bake Sale The Louise Hornet Band hosts a bake sale - with donations used for the Disney trip - Saturday, March 22 at Sablatura's Grocery, 105 N. Market in Louise, from 8 a.m. until sold out. Also, they will be set up at 10:30 a.m. at Mustang Creek BBQ, 37320 U.S. 59 in Louise. Pick up your desserts for Easter!

Easter Sunrise Service At Park Memorial Baptist hosts an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. at Friendship Park at the Pavilion. Bring your lawn chairs. Everyone is welcome. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. There will be no evening service at on Sunday, March 23.

Relay For Life Online Training For Captains Relay For Life of Wharton County will hold classes on its new Web site. All team captains (new and current) need to attend one of the meetings listed. If you are not able to attend, send one of your team members in your place. El Campo's training will be Monday, March 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the El Campo Library meeting room. Wharton's training will be held Tuesday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wharton Public Library. All attendees will receive and online training manual and Relay For Life gifts. Attendees will be registered for door prizes.

Ricebird Band Boosters Meeting The Ricebird Band Boosters meet Monday, March 24 at 6 p.m. at the El Campo High School Band Hall. All middle and high school band parents and anyone interested in working with the Band Boosters are encouraged to attend. For information call Leticia Mulford at 543-5334.

Fried Chicken Dinner Fundraiser ECISD Walking 9-5 Relay Team hosts a fried chicken dinner fundraiser Tuesday, March 25 from 5-7 p.m. at Staff's Food Service. Plates are $7. B&G Club Annual Hamburger Supper The Boys & Girls Club of El Campo hosts its 4th Annual Hamburger Supper Fundraiser Thursday, March 27 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Drive-through only at 713 N. Fahrenthold. Plates are $6. For tickets call 979-543- 8320.

Louise-Hillje Chamber of Commerce Banquet The Louise-Hillje Chamber of Commerce hosts its 49th Annual banquet Thursday, March 27 at St. Andrew Parish Hall in Hillje. Social hour and silent auction begin at 6 p.m. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. Entertainment is Rodney Rush, hypnotist. Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through March 26. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Please call the SPCA at 979-323-8787 for information or for an application, or to help with the effort.

St. Philip Sponsors 'Run For Excellence' The first annual 'Run For Excellence' to benefit St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Parish and the St. Philip Pioneer athletic department is Saturday, April 5 at St. Philip's football field. Race registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m.; the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 1-mile Family Run begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per person. Forms available at the school or parish office. T-shirts and snacks will be provided at the completion of the race. Call 543-2901 for more information.

Morning Lifeguards Needed At ECAC Lifeguards are needed by the El Campo Aquatic Center, especially during the 6-11 a.m. shift, Monday through Friday. Guard classes will be taught March 24-30. Applicants must be no younger than 15 to apply, and adult applicants are being encouraged. For information call Stephanie at 543-1468.

WCYF Little Miss/Little Mr. Contest Any boy or girl between the age of 6 and 8 years old as of May 1, 2008 is eligible for the Wharton County Youth Fair Little Miss/Little Mr. Contest. If interested, application are available at the Fair Office and on the web site at www.whartoncountyyouthfair.org. Applications are due in the fair office by March 31.
