EC, LHS named to all-district

Travis Pflughaupt
Several area basketball players earned post-season honors as members of their respective all-district teams.

The Ricebirds, Lady 'Birds and Hornets all claimed several spots on first team, second team and honorable mention rosters.

Ricebirds

El Campo earned two firstteam selections and one secondteam honor.

Seniors Travis Pflughaupt and Anthony Terrell both made the first team all-district.

Pflughaupt led the 'Birds in scoring with 574 total points over 29 games. A strong post player for the Ricebirds, Pflughaupt averaged a double-double with 19.8 points and 13.7 reboundsper game. He also averaged 3.3 blocks (96 total), 3.1 steals, 2.1 assists, shot 63 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free-throw line.

Terrell took charge of the offense as El Campo's point guard. He averaged a teamhigh 3.9 assists-per-game. Also a high scorer for the 'Birds, Terrell made 25 3-pointers on the year and averaged 10 points per game.

Kevin Gooden, a senior guard, received second-team honors. He was El Campo's constant outside presence. Gooden led the team with 27 3-pointers in only 19 games. He averaged 14.5 points per game, behind only Pflughaupt, made 60 percent of his free throws, averaged 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals.

Anthony Terrell
Honorable mention went to sophomore Landon Appling. As a guard in the Ricebirds' scheme, Appling connected on nine 3- pointers, averaged 4.7 points per game and shot 65 percent from the free-throw line.

The RIcebirds' academic all-district team includes Sebastian Brown, Pflughaupt and Appling.

Lady 'Birds

The Lady 'Birds claimed a pair of first and second-team honors.

Junior Ashley Brooks and sophomore Ebonee Spencer were both named to the first team.

Brooks was the team's leading scorer in district play with 131 total points, averaging 11.9 points per game. Throughout district competition, she pulled down 84 rebounds, forced 45 steals and 9 assists.

Spencer was a big presence under the basket. She led the team with 91 rebounds in district play. She also totaled 90 points with an 8.2 average in district competition, made 28 steals and three assists.

Ashley Brooks
Senior Ashley Thomas and junior Angel Brooks both made the district's second team.

Thomas totaled 83 points in El Campo's 11 district games and averaged 7.5 points per game. She made 15 total assists, 25 rebounds, 20 steals and eight 3-pointers.

Angel Brooks was one of El Campo's top rebounders. She totaled 88 boards in district competition. She also averaged 6.8 points per game and scored a total 75 points.

Honorable mention went to seniors Kela Johnson, Chelsi Robinson and Shae Solomon.

Johnson was a prime ball handler for El Campo. In district play, she made 14 assists and averaged 2.5 per game. She also averaged 2.5 points, made 27 rebounds and 21 steals.

Robinson was one of El Campo's top defenders. She finished district play with 42 total steals and forced many more. As a guard, she put pressure on the opposition and set up others to come away with steals. Robinson scored 53 total points and pulled down 29 rebounds.

Solomon was a force in her first year on the varsity team. She made 36 total rebounds and averaged 3.3 per game. Many of her 57 points came on put-back baskets. She also totaled 23 steals and 8 assists.

Ebonee Spencer
The Lady 'Birds' academic all-district team members include Angel Brooks, Ashley Brooks, Johnson and Spencer.

Hornets

Louise came away with one first-team selection and two second-team honors.

Senior Nick Barrera made the district's first team.

Despite missing most of the pre-district action with an injury suffered during football season, Barrera played in all six district games. In district competition, he totaled a teamhigh 73 points and averaged 12.2 per game. Barrera hit on 46 percent of his field goals and 31 percent on 3-pointers. He made 27 total rebounds, 11 steals and 10 assists.

Senior Wesley Branscum and junior Matthew Blumrick were both named to the second team.

Branscum was a strong presence in the post for the Hornets. He totaled 57 points, 39 rebounds and 9 steals.

Blumrick led the Hornets on the defensive side of the ball with 23 steals. He also pulled down a team-high 42 rebounds. Blumrick averaged 7.2 points, 3.8 steals and 7 rebounds per game.

Nick Barrera
Honorable mention went to seniors Cory Hajovsky and Matthew Vasquez.

Hajovsky scored 29 points and averaged 4.8 points-pergame in district play. He made 2 3-pointers, 10 steals and 20 rebounds.

Vasquez connected on eight 3-pointers, scored 55 total points with a 9.2 average, made 6 steals and pulled down 6 rebounds.
