Off Track
The Ricebird Relays concluded Friday night, and when dawn broke Saturday morning heavy equipment began site preparation for a new track and artificial turf for the football field. In this photo a maintainer is used to scrape up the old rubberized track that had athletes running on it just hours before. The track and stadium are closed to the public until construction is completed, planned to happen before football season this fall. The El Campo ISD school board decided in February to install a new track and artificial turf in Ricebird Stadium. Hellas Construction received the nod to renovate the stadium with their top-ranked bid of $1.477 million.
