SCAC names Horton to student '07 athlete academic honor roll

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll for the 2007 fall term and a record 715 student-athletes made the list. Among those being recognized was Russell Horton, the grandson of Tony and Dorothy Mader of El Campo and Bea Gloor of Victoria.

Horton, the son of Mary and Larry Horton of Edna, is a junior at Trinity University in San Antonio.

To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum gradepoint average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference. Trinity University in San Antonio had 80 students-athletes recognized, including Russell Horton for football.

Since its inception in 1997, almost 12,000 male and female student-athletes have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom.
