4-H members do well at dairy judging events Members of the Wharton County 4-H dairy judging team competed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Saturday, March 15. The contest consisted of 308 individuals and 94 teams. The top 20 individuals who are not classified as high school seniors received a calf scramble certificate provided they had not already received one. Colleen Krenek, who competed in the senior dairy judging event, received $1,250 calf scramble certificate. She will be able to purchase a beef heifer for next year's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Senior team members Krenek, Shelby Rod, Bethany Weinheimer and Sierra Ledwig placed sixth out of 75 teams. Rod brought home 16th place and a key chain, while Krenek earned 26th place. In the junior division, the team of Cydni Rod, Korie Couvillion, Kyler Couvillion and Kyler Valenta placed ninth and the team of Michaela Bram, Cheyenne Morton, Brooke Wallace and Danielle Valenta took 10th. Individually, Bram placed 14th and received a key chain. Kyler Couvillion placed 23rd and Kori Couvillion took 26th place. |
