BULLETIN BOARD DON'T MISS: Holub Blood Drive-Marrow/Stem Cell Drive The Dwight Holub Blood Drive-Marrow/Stem Cell Donor Registry Drive is 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at the Commercial State Bank Gold room across from H-E-B. Holub has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a type of cancer. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and is in need of a stem cell transplant. Even if you can't give blood, you may be on the National Marrow/Stem Cell Donor Registry, a database that helps find a match for people like Dwight. Potential donors simply give a cheek swab and fill out a brief health questionnaire. A person of any race, ethnicity or gender, age 18-60 and who meets donation health guidelines can be a donor. 'March On Austin' Stop The TTC/Tolls March on Austin is Saturday, April 5 at 12:15 p.m. with line up by 11:45 a.m. The rally is from 1-4 p.m. Staging area for the march are parking lots at the corner of Hwy. 343/Ceasar Chavez/Red River streets, one block west of I-35. Water Safety Instructor Course A Water Safety Instructor Course provides the knowledge and the training to be a successful instructor and includes general water safety and emergency procedures, swimming safety for infants and preschoolers, teaching methods and the Progressive Learn-to-Swim Levels. Prerequisites: 16 years of age with the ability to perform several different strokes. Course is 34 hours, including pre-course swim and Fundamentals of Instructor Training. Juneteenth Celebration Meeting for 2008 A Juneteenth celebration meeting is 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5 at Mount Olive Baptist Church for all who are interested in volunteering. Louise Hillje Clean-Up Day April 5 Louise-Hillje Beautification Organization will have a dump site at 3rd and Market streets across from the fire station on Saturday, April 5. They accept plastic, paper, aluminum, glass, small metal objects, and household debris. They do not accept large appliances, furniture, mattresses, batteries, tires and motor oil. Rice Farmers Coop at 106 Market in El Campo accepts old tires for a fee starting at $2.50. The county brush pile in Louise, located by the old county barn, will be open for tree limbs and lumber. If your group or organization would like to conduct a project, contact the Louise-Hillje Chamber at 979- 648-2615 to tell them of your activity so they can present your group with a certificate of appreciation and add you to the list of organizations helping on clean-up day. Donations are appreciated to help pay for the dumpster that costs $180 per load. Large trash bags are available at the water office for the clean-up. Volunteers are needed for the clean-up campaign. St. Philip Sponsors 'Run For Excellence' The first Run For Excellence to benefit St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Parish and the St. Philip Pioneer athletic department is Saturday, April 5 at St. Philip's football field. Race registration is 7:30-8:30 a.m.; the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 1-mile Family Run begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20 per person. Forms available at the school or parish office. Tests For Acceleration/Credit The El Campo Independent School District offers exams for acceleration, credit by examination, in all grades for students with no prior instruction at that level or in a particular subject. To achieve acceleration, students in kindergarten through grade 5 must: (1) score 90 percent on criterion-referenced tests for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, (2) be recommended by the campus principal and (3) have written parental approval for the acceleration. Students in grade 6 through 12 must score 90 percent on a criterion-referenced test for the applicable course. Register with your principal by April 21. Exams are May 6, 7, and 8. |
