Seven Lakes no contest for EC softball The Lady 'Birds improved to 3-1 in district play after topping a tough opponent on the road Friday. El Campo cruised to a 7-1 victory over Seven Lakes at Katy. A run in the first inning quickly paced the Lady 'Birds ahead of the Spartans. Anna Raun reached first on a short shot to third base. Angela Fiala followed with a hit that put Raun out at second, but Fiala safely at first base. Brittney Oates made a sacrifice hit and moved Fiala over to second while earning the second out. Alexis Cooper earned the first RBI of the night with a single to left field. The hit gave Fiala plenty of time to run home and put the Lady 'Birds up 1-0 by the end of the inning. El Campo's bats struck again in the top of the third. Lindsey Marik led off the inning with a single and Raun hit a sacrifice bunt to put her in scoring position on second base. Fiala hit a single to left field and brought Marik home for El Campo's second run. Fiala later stole home plate to put the Lady 'Birds up 3-0. Pitcher Emily Bergstrom kept Seven Lakes swinging and missing in the bottom of the inning and El Campo came up again to extend the lead. Bergstrom proved to be a patient batter and walked to lead off the inning. Hayley Pierce came in to run for her and made her way around the bases. The next batter struck out, but Lauralee Collins connected for a single to put two runners on base. A single by Lindsey Marik sent Pierce home for another El Campo run. Katlyn Urbanovsky, pinch running for Collins, eventually stole home and put her team up 5-0. The Lady 'Birds moved ahead 6-0 in the fifth inning when Oates reached base on a single and came in on a nice hit by Danielle Smith. Seven Lakes managed a score in the bottom of the sixth, but El Campo answered to reclaim a six-run lead in the seventh inning. Raun led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Fiala. While the next two batters earned outs, Raun and Fiala both stole bases to put runners on second and third. Smith came up with another big hit. She hit a single to bring in Raun for the final run of the game. Bergstrom held off Seven Lakes in the bottom of the seventh to put the first three batters out in dominating fashion. Tuesday was the Lady 'Birds' final road game of the regular season. They played at Lamar Consolidated and will return to El Campo Saturday to host Terry at 3:30 p.m. The Lady 'Birds will finish the season with five consecutive home games before making a probable entrance into the playoffs. |
