Tractor arson case puzzling

Wharton County Sheriff's deputies are hunting for whoever torched a farmer's tractor on FM 2546.

The $87,000 International tractor was completely destroyed in the fire which apparently went unnoticed as it burned. No one called in a report.

Deputies aren't even exactly sure when the fire took place.

So far they've been able to narrow it down to sometime between March 11 and March 17 at the site near the CR 387 intersection.

The farmer, WCSO Lt. Danny Marek said, "has had past problems with fuel thefts and parked it in a remote location."

Sgt. Jason Mican is investigating the crime.

"I'm surprised it (the fire) wasn't reported. But it was in a remote area where it couldn't be seen," he said.

Arson is a felon crime.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Wharton County Sheriff's Department at 543-1373 or 532-1550.
