Joe Chomout Jr.
He was born Sept. 17, 1915 in Yoakum to Joe Sr. and Katerina Lekes Chomout. He owned and operated Joe's Shoe Shop from 1948 until 2001. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, KJT and was a retired member of the El Campo Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy Chomout of El Campo; son, Robert Chomout and wife Becky of El Campo; grandson, Kevin Chomout and wife Becky; granddaughter, Kendra Chomout; great-grandchildren, Quinton, Kaitlyn, Colin and Skyler Nicole; sister, Bessie Staehr; and brothers, James and Steve Chomout, all of Yoakum. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose; sisters, Josephine Huntley, Mary Kovalcik and Lillie Okruhlik; and brother, Frank Chomout. A parish rosary will be recited Saturday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Jim Spacek, Bill Spacek, Keith Gibbons, Bobby Myers, Pete Martin and Norm Thaysen. Memorials in memory of Joe Chomout Jr. may be made to Hospice Support, Inc., P.O. Box 1417, El Campo or to ARC, P.O. Box 227, El Campo.
