The Lady 'Birds got another big win Tuesday. El Campo's softball team improved to 4-1 in district play with a 10- 2 trouncing of Lamar Consolidated.

The Lady 'Birds opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning.

Anna Raun hit a single and came in two at-bats later on a blast by Brittney Oates to left field. Lamar held off the Lady 'Birds momentarily by preventing any further scoring, though the Lady Mustangs faced seven batters.

El Campo struck again in the second inning.

With one out, Lindsey Marik walked to become the first runner on base. She scored later that inning on a single by Angela Fiala and gave El Campo a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning the Lady 'Birds pulled ahead and practically ended Lamar's chances of a comeback. El Campo scored three more runs to take a 5-0 lead.

Marik led off the scoring streak with a single to left field. Raun followed with a sacrifice hit that put her out at first but left Marik safe on second base.

Angela Fiala connected for a single to put runners on first and third bases and put El Campo in a strong position.

A single by Oates scored Marik and kept two runners on base.

Alexis Cooper struck out for the second out, but Danielle Smith came up with a 2-run hit. She sent the ball to Lamar's shortstop, who made a costly error on the play.

Both Fiala and Oates came home and scored the fourth and fifth runs of the night.

Lamar answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the fifth inning was more success for the Lady 'Birds.

Gabby Macias and Kristi Michaelsen reached base on back-to-back errors.

Marik hit into a fielder's choice, but brought in Macias for an RBI.

Raun hit a single to put runners on first and third and set up another score.

Fiala hit a fly ball to right field to allow the second run of the inning to tag up on third and come in. Oates connected for another single and brought Raun in for the final run of the inning and put El Campo up 8-1.

The Lady Mustangs responded with another run in the bottom of the fifth, but El Campo came back with two.

Smith and Emily Bergstrom led off the inning with singles. Smith came in on a sacrifice hit by Michaelsen and Hayley Pierce, running for Bergstrom, stole home plate for El Campo's 10th run.

Lamar only made one hit for the rest of the game and the Lady 'Birds left the field with a 10-2 win.

The game marked El Campo's fourth win in district play and gave the Lady 'Birds a 4-1 record in five consecutive road games. El Campo will finish out the regular season at home, starting today at 3:30 against Terry.
