When Alton "Bingo" and Delores Krauskopf decided to move from the country to Louise city limits, they constructed a beautiful home of white rock and outlined it with a magnificent yard of blooming flowers and shrubs.

Their gardening efforts have not gone unnoticed either. The Louise Beautification committee, on behalf of the Louise Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, chose Krauskopfs for the Spring Yard Award.

"This was a great honor," said Delores.

The couple have lived in their new home for 3 1/2 years. The gardening progress wasn't immediate however.

"We started from scratch," she said. "It took us a long time to clean the property. It was totally covered with weeds and trees."

Future plans include adding flower beds around the trees leading from the circle driveway to the garage. "

"Bingo has plans to put in a water fountain and more trees," said Delores.

Regular upkeep is a must, too. Keeping the flower beds free from weeds, fertilizing and watering are the three key ingredient to the couple's yard maintenance. Seasonal flowers are also incorporated throughout the yard.

Much of the work is done by her husband, said Delores.

"Bingo does about 80 percent of the yard work. His farm hand assists him.

When Bingo isn't working in the yard, he is tilling and planting his seasonal vegetable garden. But they do find time to relax, too. "We enjoy the backyard and patio, Delores admits. "It's quiet and pleasant. We enjoy the humming birds. They are starting to get plentiful.
