LHS ladies run at area, eye region The Lady Hornets will find out their area track meet qualifiers today. Louise is running in the area meet this afternoon and the girls are focused on moving on to the next round. "Everyone wants to go to regionals," Bryan Branch, head coach of the Lady Hornets, said. "That's our standard on if it's a success or not. If you get to regionals, then you've had a good track season. That's our goal right now." Louise will find out who goes to the regional meet today. The girls are taking on their area at Thrall and the top four finishers in each category qualify for the regional meet. The goal for today's meet is cautious competition. The Lady Hornets need to make sure their hand-offs are good on their relays and other techniques work well while they compete. Meaning no disrespect to other area teams, Branch said mistakes are practically the only thing that could prevent the Lady Hornets from advancing to regionals. "You just go in, do what you can do and run like you've been running," the coach said. "If you take care of your business, you'll be fine. It's good to have that little bit of pressure on you that you can't jump and stuff like that. As far as the relays go, I just told them to be safe and get the batons around. Then we'll use the next two weeks to push the speed out." Louise is not looking past the area meet by any means, or even the regional competition, but the Lady Hornets have hopes of competing on the highest level - state. "I think our girls are at a good spot," Branch said. "They're still working hard at practice and they know the big picture - they want to get to regionals. They're not overconfident and they're not cocky in any way. I like their attitude. They're real even about things." |
