Train wreck kills one man in Jackson County

Cody Zetka, a 22-year-old Edna man, was killed Friday, April 11 on CR 445 within the city limits of Francitas when he reportedly failed to stop for a train.

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman in Corpus Christi said the Jackson County accident occurred at approximately 5:59 p.m. Zetka was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Dwayne Taylor at 6:50 p.m.

Trooper Brandon Curlee reported Zetka was traveling north on CR 445 and the train was traveling east. The train's right front quarter struck the left front quarter of the 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck, spinning the truck around counterclockwise, striking the passenger side of the train. The truck came to rest in a field on the east side of CR 445.

Zetka is a cousin of Joe Zetka Jr. of El Campo.
