Gonzales Trade Days coming April 26th Historic Gonzalez is preparing for Trade Days which will be held April 26 at the confederate and courthouse squares. The event offers collectibles, wood items, bam wood furniture, jewelry and much more. There will be a variety of food available from barbecue to oriental, Mexican food, fried chicken and chicken fried steak. There will also be a Dutch oven cook-off. Gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday. Costumed docents will be providing skilled demonstrations all day. Persons can experience the peaceful life of the 1800s, taste campfire cooking at its best, see how pioneers prepared meals and visit an authentic working broom factory while the broom maker exhibits his craft. At 2:30 p.m. the Pioneer Opry Stage will showcase the annual hilarious melodrama. Folks can also tour the Gonzales Memorial Museum and the Old Jail Museum. The Gonzales Memorial Museum and Amphitheater was built in 1936-37 and is home for the "Come and Take It Cannon" that fired the first shot of the Texas Revolution. The Old Jail Museum was built in 1887 and is a museum of law enforcement artifacts. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 6-11 years. |
