DON'T MISS: Czech Catholic Family Council Meeting The Family Council of the Czech Catholic Nursing Home in Hillje meets Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church on West Street in El Campo. Anyone who is a family member or friend of a resident of the home is encouraged to attend to voice their concerns about the care their resident is receiving. The Family Council is an independent selfgoverned group composed of family and friends of nursing home residents. If you have questions call Pat at 979-541-9328.

St. Philip Mexican Dinner Plates St. Philip Catholic Daughters have Mexican dinner plates Sunday, April 20 at St. Philip Parish Hall. Serving starts at 11 a.m. on Depot Street. Plates to-go only for $6. No advance sales.

Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Anniversary Sunday, April 20 the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church will celebrate its 41st Church Anniversary at 3 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Clarence Owens, Pastor of the Camp Zion-Rising Star Baptist Church of Spanish Camp.

Project Graduation Meeting Project Graduation meets Monday, April 21 at Myatt Elementary Cafeteria at 6 p.m. All committees and activities for Project Graduation will be finalized. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.

Ricebird Band Booster Club Meeting The Ricebird Band Boosters meet Monday, April 21 at 6 p.m. at the High School Band Hall. All band parents are urged to attend. For information call Leticia Mulford at 543-5334.

Annual Prasek Fishing Tournament The 6th Annual Betty Jo Prasek memorial Fishing Tournament sponsored by Hillje/Louise Knights of Columbus Council 9394 is Saturday, May 3, but the deadline to enter is Monday, April 21. Entry forms available from any KC member, El Campo Chamber of Commerce at 543- 1040, Keith Beal at www.texasoutdoors.us or at Prasek's Hillje Smokehouse. For tournament information call Jerry Hensley at 541-9434 or 543-6932 after 6 p.m. Check in at El Campo Chamber of Commerce from 2-7 p.m. on May 2. Tournament and meal will be May 3. $100 entry fee per boat (maximum 4 people per boat plus 1 extra youth anger if applicable.

Tests For Acceleration/Credit The El Campo Independent School District offers exams for acceleration, credit by examination, in all grades for students with no prior instruction at that level or in a particular subject. Students in Kindergarten through grade 5 must score 90 percent on tests for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies; be recommended by the campus principal; and have written parental approval. Students in grade 6 through 12 must score 90 percent on a test for the applicable course. Register with your principal by April 21. Exams are May 6, 7 and 8.

GED/ESL Education Classes GED and ESL classes are held at El Campo Adult Learning Center, 802 Depot, Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or at El Campo Housing Authority, 403-A Ricebird Lane Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-noon. ESL night classes are at St. Robert's Catholic Church, 512 Tegner, Monday and Thursday 6:30-8:30 p.m. For information call 979- 532-6301 or 1-800-561-9252, ext. 6301. New student orientation dates for GED day classes are Monday, April 21 and May 5.

CPR For PRR Classes CPR for the Professional Rescuer Recertification classes is Tuesday, April 22 from 5-9 p.m. The cost of each course is $40, an additional cost of $10 for a pocket mask and/ or additional cost of $15 for the book. Family Literacy Classes For Adults/Children Family Literacy classes for adults and children will be held on Thursday, April 24 at Hutchins Elementary. Classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. Babysitting and transportation will be provided if needed.

Mature Driving Course A Mature Driving Course is Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the in-service room of El Campo Memorial Hospital, 303 Sandy Corner Road. 'I Love America' Benefits Heritage Center First Baptist Church hosts I Love America, A Patriotic Tribute by the Freedom Four to benefit the El Campo Heritage Center on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door. Will include residential humor anecdotes by Joe Tom Davis. The Freedom Four includes Daniel Berglund, Cecil Davis, Jim Lane and Joe Tom Davis. Pianist is Carolyn Goelzer.

BBQ Pork Steak Dinner Fundraiser Knights of Columbus Council 2490 BBQ pork steak dinner is Sunday, April 27 at the KC Hall on Armory Road. Serving begins at 11 a.m. Plates are $6.50 to-go only.

Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through April 30. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

A Marrow/Stem Cell donor Registry Drive A marrow-stem cell donor registry drive is Saturday, May 3 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Commercial State Bank Gold Room. This is a follow-up drive to the Dwight Holub Blood Drive held April 5. This is not a blood drive. A simple swab inside of your cheek and a brief health questionnaire are all that's needed to register. A person of any race, ethnicity or gender who is 18 to 60 (up until 61st birthday) years old and who meets donation health guidelines can become a potential marrow or blood stem cell donor.

EC High School All-Sports Banquet May 5 El Campo High School All-Sports Banquet is Monday, May 5. Viewing of boards and meal will begin at 5 p.m. at the El Campo Civic Center. Daiten Hubenak Medical Fund A fundraiser for Daiten Hubenak, son of Darren and Donna Hubenak of El Campo is Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the KC Hall in El Campo. There will be a live auction and a gun raffle and a free stew supper will be served. Funds go to the family to help defray the medical expenses of Cystic Fibrosis.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program covering Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County to help people who can't afford to spay/neuter their dogs/cats. Early Help For Children Important Region III Education Service Center Early Childhood Intervention Program provides support and services to families with children, birth to age 3, with developmental delays and disabilities. USDA Rural Development Loans Offered USDA Rural Development is accepting business and industry guaranteed loan applications through banks or other authorized commercial lenders to create and maintain employment in rural communities. Loans can be used to expand a business with a new building or added property, to buy machinery or equipment, etc. Interest rates may be fixed or variable and are negotiated between the lender and borrower. Ricebird Boosters Raise Scholarship $$ The Ricebird Booster Club is selling raffle tickets to help its scholarship fund. Last year, the booster club raised enough money to award scholarships to every athlete who applied and hopes to do the same this year. Tickets are $20 each and go toward 17 prizes. 500 tickets will be sold. The drawing is June 14 at the Booster Club Golf Tournament.
