Wharton AD quits after one season Wharton ISD Superintendent Don Hillis confirmed Friday afternoon that Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Gary Van Sant has tendered his resignation. The Leader-News learned of this information last Friday, but was unable to confirm it. Van Sant refused to comment. Van Sant is reportedly headed to Class 5-A Tomball High School. He came to Wharton last May after he served the same position at Tidehaven for two years. He was an assistant coach at El Campo from 2001-2004, head coach and athletic director at Hallettsville from 1995-98 and had a one-year stint at Louise in 1994. |
