Voters' guide coming Saturday With early voting in May elections getting under way Monday, the El Campo Leader-News will be publishing a voters' guide in the Saturday edition. Area voters will be asked to decide who will represent them on the El Campo City Council, the El Campo school board and the Isaacson Municipal Utility District. Early voting will be April 28 to May 6 with Election Day falling on Saturday, May 10. In the El Campo at-large Council race, seven candidates are vying for three positions. Incumbents Philip Spenrath and Kenneth Martin are facing challenges from Henry Dornak Jr., Otha Edison, Jimmy Roppolo, Tim Ryan and Richard Young. In the city, the top three vote-getters will take office. The third seat was vacated recently with the resignation of Mayor Protem Kyle Smith, whose new job prohibited him from serving on Council. On the El Campo school board, incumbent Dr. Melissa Erwin faces a challenge from Clayton Ryan, while incumbent Tommy Turner faces chal- lenger Paul Soechting. In the IMUD, incumbents Floyd Fisher, Jody Juroska and Floyd Shimek face a challenge from Brenda George. In this race, the top three vote-getters take office. In the Saturday edition, the Leader-News will publish information on each candidate as well as their responses to a series of questions based on issues in individual races. Which City Council candidates support annexations? Which are looking for ways to cut the budget? What should the next major school district expenditure be? Should students take a breath test to attend the prom? These are just a few of the questions candidates were asked to answer. |
