Doyle Smidt Doyle Smidt, 78, of El Campo, died Saturday, April 19, 2008. He was born on June 3, 1929 in Wharton County to Cornelius and Thelma Guyer Smidt. Mr. Smidt was a retired farmer and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Smidt of El Campo; son, Doyle C. Smidt of El Campo; daughter, Melissa Liles and husband Kurt of Frisco; grandchildren, Lindsey and Landon Liles of Frisco; brothers, Pat E. Smidt of El Campo and C. Ross Smidt and wife Betty of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law (wife of Pat) Lucille Smidt. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at Triska Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Storey officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Kurt Liles, Donald Volding, Frank Jordan, Russell Frnka, Steve Hawes, Edgar Roades, Raymond Graham, Jesse Montalvo, Jim Garrett and Cecil Anderson. Memorials in memory of Doyle Smidt may be made to Houston Hospice-El Campo or to the Maryann Rider Roades Scholarship Fund, Wharton County Junior College, Wharton. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to caregivers Carol Alford, Julie Deases, Theresa Wells, Charolette Blume, Janet Harvey, and special thanks to Susan Pharoan for the loving care she gave Doyle and the much needed support she gave to Margaret and her family. Also thank you to Don Storey, Jennie Cockrell and all of the personnel at Houston Hospice of El Campo. |
