Joseph Popp

Joseph Lawrence Popp, 85, of Nada, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

He was born May 30, 1922 in Nada to Ferdinand and Anna Staff Popp. He was a carpenter and farmer. Mr. Popp was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Society, American Legion Post 251, Nocturnal Adoration Society, and was a World War II army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Leopold Popp of Nada; daughters, Marilyn Goerig and husband Leonard of El Campo, Rose Arunski and husband Karl of Forney, and Ruthie Buzek and husband Louis of El Campo; son, Wayne Popp and wife Wanda of Wharton; brother, Bishop Bernard Popp of San Antonio; sisters, Sister Adelide Popp of Victoria and Sister Anna Marie Popp of Victoria.

Also, 11 grandchildren, Jenny Schaffer and husband Kary, Dr. Brian Goerig and wife Abby, Kevin Arunski and wife Kelly, Luke Popp and wife Jenna, Tracy Perkins and husband Chris, Robin Morris and husband Greg, Nick Popp and wife Jenny, Bonnie Buzek, Kelly Arunski, Jake Popp, and Suzanne Buzek; six great grandchildren, Kourtney and Kylee Schaffer, Emery and Brooks Goerig, and Micayla and Tate Perkins.

Mr. Popp was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ethel Marie Popp; sisters, Margaret Swoboda and Augusta Gerbermann; and brother, Lawrence Popp.

A wake service was held Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada.

Funeral services will be today, Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with his nephew, the Rev. Martin Leopold, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 251.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Dr. Brian Goerig, Kevin Arunski, Luke Popp, Nick Popp, Jake Popp, Kary Schaffer, Chris Perkins and Greg Morris.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Building Fund or Garwood Volunteer Fire Department.
