Baby shower honors new mother Sarah Martinez

A baby shower honoring Sarah Reid Martinez was held at the Matochas' home Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Hostesses were Allison Matocha, Megan Randle, Tracy Butts, Tommie Randle, Terry Butts and Quala Matocha.

Upon their arrival, guests were greeted at the door with a sign that read: "It's a girl." Sarah will use it to display at her home. The new mother of Mayleigh Rae Martinez and the new grandmother Colleen Reid were presented baby pacifier corsages.

A bouquet comprised of baby clothing items, silk flowers and ribbon decorated the registry table and was presented to Sarah as a gift from the Matochas. Party favors were pink felt miniature diapers filled with pacifier-shaped candies.

The refreshment table, covered in a brown table linen with a light pink tulle overlay, was centered with a diaper cake trimmed in ribbons of pink, brown and brown with pink polka dots, and topped with a bow in brown and pink satin ribbons. Confetti reading "It's a Girl" accented the cake along the strands of ribbon. Pink balloons suspended with pink and brown ribbon decorated the home. A baby girl banner and balloons also decorated the home.

Refreshments included chicken and pimento salad sandwiches, fruit kabobs, shrimp dip, Ritz crackers, a tray of assorted vegetables and Ranch dip, monterey jack-jalapeno cheese and colby jack cheese cubes, double chocolate cookies, cashew nuts, deviled eggs, bacon dip, Fritos and punch. A white almond-flavored cake iced in pink strawberry confection was dotted with brown M&Ms with a replica baby topper.

Each hostess presented Sarah with gifts for her new baby, who was born April 15, 2008 and is still in the neonatal intensive care unit at Women's Hospital of Texas in Houston.

She is expected to be coming home soon. The new father is Javier Martinez.
