Nada/Garwood Gadabouts hear reports on gardening, yards being recognized

Members of the Nada/ Garwood Gadabouts met Thursday evening at the Garwood Fire Hall meeting room. President Anita Meismer welcomed everyone and recognized Sybil Balusek as a new member.

Catherine Berger led the club prayer and the pledge to the flag. The treasurer's report was given by Helen Noteboom. It was reported that get well cards had been sent to Josephine Becak, Josephine Popp and Betty Leopold. Birthday greetings were sent to member Irene S'kuca and a sympathy card was sent to the Joe Popp family.

The gardening committee reported gardens are doing nicely and a good rain would help the crops already planted. Reports of celery, onion, squash, cucumbers, beans and many other vegetables were heard.

The hospitality committee said food had been provided for the Jessie Harris family and the Robert Pratt family who lost family members during the month.

Members will entertain the Garwood Elementary School kindergarten students with a party on May 8. Other activities will be the Older Texan Fair at the Sheridan Community Hall May 15 and a Mother's Day luncheon for members on May 22 at the home of Pauline Solomon.

Yard of the month for April was the home of Rosemary Wied. The yard was full of azaleas in full bloom and an Easter Bunny with baskets of Easter eggs. Wied, with the help of her son Jeff Wied, spends many hours in the yard to keep the landscaped yard looking well groomed.

Dorothy Eggemeyer and her son Mark Eggemeyer have been chosen to receive the Yard of the Month for May. Dorothy and Mark spend countless hours in her yard. Their flower beds were planted with silver wave petunias.

It was announced a white wooden cross at the Veteran's Memorial on Hwy. 71 in Garwood was draped in black to honor the passing of WWII Veteran Joe Popp.

Club secretary Catherine Berger presented an informative program on National Secretary's Day and stated since 2000 this day has been recognized as Administrative Professional Day. It is celebrated in a professional way worldwide by both small and large companies.
