Marrow/Stem Cell Donor Registry Drive A marrow and stem cell donor registry drive today from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Commercial State Bank Gold Room. This is a follow-up drive to the Dwight Holub Blood Drive held April 5. This is not a blood drive. A simple swab inside of your cheek and a brief health questionnaire are all that's needed to register. A person of any race, ethnicity or gender who is 18 to 60 (up until 61st birthday) years old and who meets donation health guidelines can become a potential marrow or blood stem cell donor.

St. Robert's Youth Collecting Canned Goods St. Robert's Youth Group holds a canned food drive today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. outside of Palais Royal. For every canned good you bring you will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Proceeds benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Robert Bellarmine Conference. Juneteenth Fundraiser - Barbecue Plates There will be a barbecue plate sale from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. today at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Ticket price is $6. Purchase tickets in advance to help support the festivities. There is a great need for volunteers. On Sunday, May 4 there is a meeting at Willie Bell Park from 3-7 p.m. for volunteers to sign up. If you are interested call Loretta Johnson at 832-967-3659. All donations for the Juneteenth celebration can be made at the First Convenience Bank inside Wal-Mart.

St. Procopius Bake Sale Today St. Procopius Altar Society hosts a bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. today, at Sablatura's Grocery Store in Louise.

Elks Sponsor Annual Bicycle Rodeo The El Campo Elks Lodge holds its annual Bicycle Rodeo today at 8:30 a.m. at the lodge facility. Senior DPS Trooper Gary Pflughaupt will teach youth proper bike-riding rules and regulations. All parents with bike-riding children are invited to attend. Children should bring their bikes to participate in the course that teaches coordination, control and safety.

Class of 1988 Reunion The Class of 1988 hosts its 20th year class reunion this year. An informational meeting is today at 1 p.m. at the Fire House Grill. For information call Yvette Benavidez Garcia at yvettebgarcia@gmail.com.

EC/Hillje SPJST Monthly Meeting El Campo Hillje SPJST Lodge 40 holds its monthly meeting in Hillje at the Lodge Hall Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. Members are asked to bring a meat dish or a casserole. The lodge will furnish desserts.

MONDAY, MAY 5

Redbud Planting In Memory of Mrs. Vela Myatt Elementary School will plant a redbud tree in memory of Gloria Vela Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m. in front of the school. The public is invited to attend the planting.

Northside Education Center May Classes Starting May 5, Northside Education Center offers Introduction to Sign Language on Mondays and Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m. for six weeks. Cost is $75 to register, book is $20. Microsoft Word classes are May 7 and Microsoft Excel classes on May 21. Both classes are $30 and will be held from 9 a.m.-noon. To register call 543-6750.

ECHS All-Sports Banquet El Campo High School All-Sports Banquet is Monday, May 5. Viewing of boards and meal begin at 5 p.m. at the El Campo Civic Center. Tickets are $7 each and available at the high school office from Coach Gillis at 543-1867, Laura Deiss at 543-8467 or Peggy Fucik at 543-1543.

DAV and Auxiliary Monthly Meeting Wharton County DAV Chapter 72 and Auxiliary holds their monthly meeting Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Covered dish meal served prior to the meeting.

'Hope After Shattered Dreams' Meeting Hope After Shattered Dreams ministry has begun for the El Campo community. Anyone who has experienced a loss resulting from, but not limited to death, divorce, job or deteriorating health is welcome to attend. Meetings are the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the El Campo Church of Christ, 315 E. Calhoun. The next meeting is Monday, May 5. For information call 979-543-4279.

Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through May 28. IMUD Board Meeting Date Changed The Isaacson Municipal Utility District (IMUD) board of directors meeting previously scheduled for Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. has been rescheduled for Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the IMUD office, 403 N. Liberty, due to the board election.

Pre-Mother's Day Bake Sale Benefits ACS Pre-Mother's Day bake sale begins Friday, May 9 at 9 a.m. directly behind the El Campo Post Office and mail boxes. The sale is sponsored by the USPS Cancer Stampers Relay For Life team. All donations go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life held in October. Look for signs at the post office.

Five Star Fair Fund Taking Bids Five Star Fair Fund representatives will be at the El Campo Chamber of Commerce Board room Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. to accept bids on projects in the Sale of Excellence. For information call 979-578-3172.

Glen Flora Cemetery Meeting A meeting is set for Saturday, May 10 from 9-11 a.m. at the Glen Flora Cemetery. A representative from the courthouse will speak about the interstate highway that is being talked about. Bring lawn chairs, snacks and coolers, and lawn mowers and chainsaws to do some cleaning.

Wharton Book Review Club Meeting The Wharton Book Review Club meets in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, Wharton on Monday, May 12 at 10 a.m. The program will feature 'Swing Riders' with Mike and Doc Blakely and includes a catered lunch by Chef Shane of WCJC at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $15 and deadline to purchase them is noon, Thursday, May 8. Ricebird Boosters Raise Scholarship $$ The Ricebird Booster Club is selling raffle tickets to help its scholarship fund. Last year, the booster club raised enough money to award scholarships to every athlete who applied and hopes to do the same this year. Tickets are $20 each and go toward 17 prizes. 500 tickets will be sold. The drawing is June 14 at the Booster Club Golf Tournament.
