Area retired teachers at district meet Members of the Wharton County Retired Teachers Association attended the District III meeting at the Bay City Service Center Wednesday, April 30. Among the 70 attending were Jeannette Macha, Betty Ann Parma, Kay Sikes and Jeanell Taylor of El Campo, Donald Lorfing and Henriette Jalowy of East Bernard and Dana Riley of Wharton. District III President Rose Castilow of Bay City presided. Macha will continue to be chairwoman of the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation. Jalowy will serve on the nominating committee for the 2009-2011 officers. District III members who died in the past year were named in the memorial service. Leadership training sessions followed where officers and committee members gathered to discuss their respective duties Herbert Norris of Tyler, state first vice president of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, was the guest speaker. He also sang for the group while his wife accompanied him on the piano. Bertha White of Bay City gave a legislative update. The fall meeting of District III will be in the Christ Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in El Campo, Oct. 1. |
