Gene Beery
Gene W. Beery Jr., 85, of El Campo, died Thursday, May 1, 2008. He was born on Aug. 6, 1922 in Kansas City, Mo. to Minerva Griggs and Gene Webster Beery Sr. Mr. Beery was owner and operator of Jayhawk Engineering. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 251, Masonic Lodge, and Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris fellow. He had served on the ECISD school board for 9 years and 6 years as president. Survivors include his sons, Wayne Alan Beery and wife Renee Kaiser Beery of El Campo and Gene W. Beery, III and wife Mary Jo Dluhos Beery of El Campo; four grandchildren, Sara Beery Macha, Amy Beery, Hanna Beery and Jason Beery; two great-grandchildren, Grace Ashley and Avery Renee Macha; brothers, Jerry Beery of Los Alamos, N.M. and Raymond Beery of Leesburg, Va.; and sisters, Janet Gibson of Greenville and Alice Woertendyke of Logan, Utah. His wife Margaret Beery; brother, Wesley "Red" Beery; and sister, Elizabeth Kopulos, preceded him in death. Visitation will begin today, May 3 at 11 a.m. at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joyce McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories cemetery with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post 251. Pallbearers will be Wayne Alan Beery, Gene W. Beery, III, Jason Beery, Butch Dluhos, Nick Beery and Philip Macha. Memorial donations may be made to donors choice.
