Mustangs end EC's season with defeat

El Campo's baseball team fell 7-1 in its final outing of the season to Lamar Consolidated at Rosenberg, April 25.

El Campo came close to a score in the top of the second inning.

With one out, Michael Van Gorp and Chase Bullard hit back-to-back singles.

Cullen Pickett drew a walk to load the bases, but the next two at-bats resulted in fly-ball outs. The inning ended with the score still 0-0.

Finally, El Campo broke through with a run in the third inning.

With one out, Skow connected for a single. Andrew Kinder then came through with a single and put runners on first and second bases.

Matthew Hamman loaded the bases after he was hit by a wild pitch and set up a score.

The Mustangs' pitcher hit his second consecutive batter in the next at-bat. Van Gorp walked to first after a wild pitch caught him and, with the bases loaded, Skow came in for the games' first run.

The next at-bat was a double play to end the inning with the 'Birds up 1-0.

El Campo kept the lead until the sixth inning, when Lamar's bats caught fire.

A walk, sacrifice bunt and then two more walks loaded the bases in the first four at-bats. The next Mustang to swing hit a grand slam and put his team up 4-1.

Three more runs came in before the end of the inning and Lamar led 7-1.

The Mustangs held the Ricebirds scoreless and move into the playoffs with a win.
