The Visitors' Side
This 2,300-pound Beefmaster bull went on an extended mosey through the neighborhood west of Hwy. 71 on Monday afternoon, ending up temporarily penned in St. Philip School's Pioneer Statium. The bull's owner, Russell Rod, said he was taking the big fella from Taiton to visit some lady friends south of town, but first Rod stopped at Commercial State Bank and headed inside. While he was in the bank, someone apparently unlatched the trailer gate, and the bull decided to tour the area. Frank Schmermund V was headed down Fahrenthold Street when he spotted the bull, then the open gate on Rod's trailer. The two used their pickups to herd the animal to the football field, which Rod said was the only nearby, large fenced area he could think of at the time. They got the bull inside, and after being joined by city animal control officers, Rod got on the ATV he fortunately had in his trailer and easily herded the 9-year-old bull back inside.
