Teague's music fills sanctuary for 20 years
Musician follows in the footsteps of her grandmother, serves as music director
Carol E. (Wuthrich) Teague proclaimed at age 6 she would "become a church organist like my grandmother," and she never strayed from that decision.

CAROL TEAGUE
Sunday she was recognized for serving the past 20 years, since 1988, as music director for Christ Lutheran Church, playing organ and piano and conducting the bell choir and adult choir.

She is also chair of the worship and music committee, and has written hymns that have been sung at Christ Lutheran services.

While she has been at Christ Lutheran for 20 years, she began playing for the Lord at age 14 in 1976 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

She worked toward the goal of "becoming a church organist" like her grandmother through all her years of education, first studying with her grandmother, Mrs. Walter Wilbeck.

She played flute in the El Campo High School band, and during that time studied organ. She accompanied the Wharton County Junior College choir and graduated with both the President's and Dean's Awards. She also accompanied the Texas Lutheran College Chapel Choir. She graduated from TLC summa cum laude, receiving a bachelor of music education degree, followed by a master of music degree from Southern Methodist University.

While at SMU, Teague was a music psychology lab assistant, and also tuned and maintained university harpsichords, which she also loved to play.

Teague has taught music in El Campo and in Wharton public schools, and was a parttime instructor at WCJC. In El Campo she taught fifth grade general music, directed sixth grade choir and accompanied all levels.

She currently teaches students in organ and piano and is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

As a dedicated musician, Teague has served as choir director of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Bay City, organist for First Presbyterian Church of El Campo, music teacher for the Wharton County Heritage Christian School and directed the choir for the Rice Belt Reformation Service.

Teague has recently completed and received a certificate from the Leadership Program for Musicians of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and served as a coordinator for the classes held at Christ Lutheran Church.

She said her "music, her faith and her family are her joy."

Her husband, Kelly, is a senior reactor operator at the South Texas Project. They have two children, Erin, 14, and William, 8, both of whom are also involved with music.
