Dairy judging team advances to state level

After competing in the District 11 4-H contest at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo in March, several members of the Wharton County dairy judging team did well enough to advance to the state level in June.

The senior team of Shelby Rod, Colleen Krenek, Bethany Weinheimer and Sierra Ledwig's first place win allows them to compete at the State 4-H competition at Texas A&M University in June. Individual wins included Rod with first place, Krenek coming in second place and Weinheimer who placed eighth.

The intermediate team of Michaela Bram, Danielle Valenta, Brooke Wallace and Cheyenne Morton placed fifth. Individually, Bram came in ninth place.

In the junior division, team members Kyler Couvillion, Korie Couvillion, Kyler Valenta and Cydni Rod took first.

Individually, Kyler Couvillion placed third; Korie Couvillion took fourth; Valenta took fifth and Rod came in sixth place. All winners received ribbons. The teams are coached by Stephanie Garrett.
