DON'T MISS: Race Day For Relay Booths Relay teams who are having a fundraising booth at the Race Day For Relay event Saturday, May 17 can start setting up their booths today through Friday. Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15 from 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 16 will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday May 17 from 8-10:45 a.m. The hall will be locked each night. Booths/games held outside need to be set up first thing Saturday morning. Cholesterol Screening at ECMH El Campo Memorial Hospital's lab offers various blood screenings Thursday, May 15. Call 979-578-5185 for an appointment; space is limited. Do not eat or drink for 12 hours before screening. Cholesterol/triglyceride test is $5, HDL, LDL and triglyceride is $10 and the HDL, LDL, triglyceride and glucose test is $15.

Free Veterans Housing Seminar A free Veterans Housing Seminar is Saturday, May 17 in Bay City at the Lions Club Teen Center, 600 12th, next to Legacy Nursing Home. Benefit Car Wash For Church Camp Memorial Baptist Youth hold a car wash Saturday, May 17 in the church parking lot, 1009 N. Wharton, from 9 a.m.-noon. Donations accepted to help with youth going to camp.

Louise Athletic Physicals For 2008-2009 Louise holds athletic physicals May 21 at 3 p.m. in the high school gym. All athletes entering the 7th, 9th, or 11th grades must have a physical before they can participate in athletics. Baylor Sports Medicine will be conducting physicals for $12 Pay at the time of the physical. For questions call Mark Stevens at 979-648-2202 ext. 307.

EC Athletic Physicals For 2008-2009 Physicals for athletes for 7th, 9th and 11th grades are mandatory. Anyone injured this school year must get another physical. Physicals will be given at the high school weightroom Wednesday, May 21 for $20. Girls will be at 4 p.m. and boys at 5 p.m. Scholarships are available, so see Doc Stogner or Coach Gillis. American Legion and Auxiliary Meeting American Legion Craig-Harriss Post 251 and its Ladies Auxiliary hold their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, May 20 in the new hall beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m. and a 7:15 p.m. meal. Auxiliary members are asked to bring desserts.

'Bikers For Brains' Scholarship Fun Run Saturday, May 24 the Prairie Switch Riders host a Motorcycle Fun Run benefiting scholarships for graduates of Wharton County. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Muldoon's in El Campo. Last bike out at 10:30 a.m. All bikes and vehicles welcome. Proceeds benefit Wharton County High School scholarships. Ricebird Boosters Raise Scholarship $$ The Ricebird Booster Club is selling raffle tickets to help its scholarship fund. Last year, the booster club raised enough money to award scholarships to every athlete who applied and hopes to do the same this year. Tickets are $20 each and go toward 17 prizes. 500 tickets will be sold. The drawing is June 14 at the Booster Club Golf Tournament. Account Set Up For Logan Stehno A bank account has been set up at First State Bank of Louise for Logan Stehno. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to P.O. Box 5, Louise, TX 77455. A benefit has been scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Muldoon's. Barbecue chicken plates-to-go or dine in from 4:30-6:30 p.m., live auction at 7:30 p.m. and raffle drawing following auction. WC Beef And Forages Scholarship The Wharton County Beef and Forages Committee is taking applications for the its scholarship. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded and paid over two semesters. To be eligible, a student must have completed at least 60 credit hours or be enrolled in a graduate or veterinary school program. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in an agriculturally related field. Applications may be picked up at the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Wharton County office or online at http://whartontx. tamu.edu. Applications are due July 1. The WCJC Foundation 2008 Gala The Wharton County Junior Foundation 2008 Gala is Friday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Safari Texas Ranch in Richmond. Tickets are $85 each. Sponsor tables (seating for 8) are $1,500 and $2,500. The gala features a reception, dinner, auctions and a comical performance by the Capital Steps. Tickets went on sale May 1. Emergency Number For Garwood VFD Starting June 16 you will no long be able to reach the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department and ambulance by dialing 758-3500, due to changes in the AT&T system. All emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.

Early Help For Children Important Region III Education Service Center Early Childhood Intervention Program provides support and services to families with children, birth to age 3, with developmental delays and disabilities. Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program covering Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County to help people who can't afford to spay/neuter their dogs/cats. Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays through May 28. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.
