Students get lessons in life from Gadabouts The Nada/Garwood Gadabouts held an endof school party for the Garwood Elementary School Kindergarten class on Thursday, May 8, at the Garwood Fire Department meeting room. Kindergarten teacher Charlotte Schneider introduced students Nayely Aguero, Jordan Baca, Traverion Garcia, Sabrina Hernandez, Elizabeth Jeffery, Kayla Johnson, Shayla Johnson, Clarisa Juarez, Juan Luciano, Denise Perez, Leyva Rangel, Enrique Rodriguez, Annalise Rutledge, Amber Serio, Celebrity Tolliver and Jessie Upson to the Gadabout members. A short program was given by the Veterans Memorial where students learned the white wooden cross at the monument is draped in black when a veteran passes away to honor their memory. Students were informed of the sacrifices veterans make for their freedom. They were also informed of volunteer community services Gadabouts provide for the Nada/Garwood area. The students were excited to learn that Minnie Lee Shaw Conner was a former first grade teacher who retired from the Garwood school system after many years of teaching. She taught many who are now parents and grandparents. Before departing each student was asked: "What do you want to become when you grow up?" Answers ranged from being a doctor, firefighter, football player to becoming a cheerleader for the University of Texas Longhorns. |
