Biker hit, seriously injured
By SHANNON CRABTREE scrabtree@leader-news.com

An El Campo man wasn't wearing a helmet when his motorcycle collided with a car in the 300 block of North Mechanic Friday night and he was flown to a Houston trauma center with a possible head injury.

Joshua Bybee, 36, of 503 E. Watt was apparently thrown from his Harley-Davidson motorcycle around 10 p.m. Friday when it collided with a car.

He had been northbound on North Mechanic when a southbound car driven by Zachariah Tucker, 24, of 506 Lundy turned left onto East Calhoun.

Tucker was cited for failure to yield right of way, according to El Campo Police Chief Jim Elliott.

Neither Tucker nor his 32-year-old passenger were injured when the motorcycle hit the vehicle's rear quarter panel.

Bybee was knocked from the bike by the force of the impact.

He was reportedly still unconscious when El Campo EMS arrived on the scene less than five minutes after the collision.

A Life Flight helicopter was summoned and Bybee was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

His condition was not available as of presstime Tuesday.
