George Rowland

George Morrill Rowland II, 74, of Louise, died Friday, May 9, 2008.

He was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Dallas to George M. and Lillian Townsend Rowland.

Mr. Rowland was a teacher and coach for Louise ISD. He was a member of East Bernard Masonic Lodge 817 for 51 years, Order of Eastern Star, Louise VFD, and Cabelleros at Sam Houston State University. Mr. Rowland was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was a woodworking craftsman and golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Elaine Rowland of Louise; daughter, Georgia "Gia" Elaine Rowland Thompson of Liverpool; son, William 'Bill' Arthur Rowland of El Campo; brother, William Townsend Rowland of Wilmington, Ill.; and grandchildren, Cassi Rowland Jones, Kurt Rowland and Sarah Rowland.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are today, Wednesday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at Louise United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at St. Procopius Catholic Cemetery in Louise with a Masonic graveside.

Pallbearers are John Thompson, Kurt Rowland, Matthew Jones, Robin Taylor, Marty Branscum, Clyde Townsend, Carl Pemberton and Bill Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers are L.N. Bridges, Garrett Menefee, Louis Preisler, John Strnadel and Charles Smith.

Memorials can be made to Louise High School Scholarship Fund or Louise United Methodist Church.
