SPORTS BRIEFS Ricebird B-ball Camp Area youth, get ready to hit the court. The annual El Campo Ricebird Basketball Camp is coming up. Led by Ricebird Head Coach Phillip Spenrath, the camp aims to teach solid basketball fundamentals to eager youngsters. Boys and girls from upcoming second graders to next year's high school freshman class will have the chance to further develop their basketball skills. The camp is set to open June 2 with a June 4 closing date. Cost for participating is $25 and registration is due Friday, May 23. Coaches will take advantage of El Campo High School's recent construction and hold drills in the main gym and new practice gym. For more information, contact Spenrath at 578-9600. El Campo Physicals Ricebird and Lady 'Birds can get required physical exams May 21 at El Campo High School's weight room. The physicals are mandatory for all athletes entering the seventh, ninth and 11th grades or any athlete that was injured during this school year. Cost is $20 for the exam. Girls will be tested at 4 p.m. while the boys' tests are at 5 p.m. Contact Athletic Director Bob Gillis or Trainer Carrie Stogner. Louise Physicals Physical exams will be available for Louise athletes May 21 at 3 p.m. in the high school gym. The exams are required for all Hornets and Lady Hornets entering the seventh, ninth and 11th grades before any athlete can participate in athletics.
