COVERING GROUND
Register now for hay field day
PETER MCGUILL

The Wharton County Hay and Forage Field Day is just around the corner.

Hay and beef cattle production are big business in Wharton County, and with the rapid increase in fuel and fertilizer prices, it is getting to be an expensive business as well.

In an effort to help hay and forage producers make more informed decisions, the Wharton County Beef and Forage Committee and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host the Wharton County Hay and Forage Field Day on May 22 at the Wharton County Fairgrounds.

Topics that are to be discussed include:

• Managing Legumes for Low Input Winter Forages,

• Green Flatsedge Control Strategies, and

• Managing Grasses with Limited Fertilizer Inputs.

In addition to this, we will have several area businesses with equipment and product exhibits at this event.

Registration will be at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m. We will cap the evening off with a steak dinner prepared by the Beef and Forages Committee.

A $5 registration fee will be collected at the door. RSVP to the Extension Office by May 19 by calling (979) 532-3310 or e-mailing pjmcguill@ag.tamu. edu.

Two CEUs will be given to Texas Department of Agriculture private, commercial and non-commercial applicators.

For more information on this or other agriculturally related subjects call the Texas AgriLife Extension Service- Wharton County at (979) 532- 3310.

Extension programs are open to all people regardless of race, color, sex, disability, religion, age or national origin.
