C. Ross Smidt

C. Ross Smidt, 69, of Houston died peacefully Thursday, July 17, 2008.

He was born Dec. 25, 1938 in El Campo to Cornelius and Thelma Guyer Smidt. He was the Co-owner of Chapman Smidt Hardware in Houston until 1990. He continued in the hardware industry until his retirement in 2006.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty Lois Pohl Smidt of Houston; daughters, Kari Dorotik and husband Jerome Jr. of El Campo, Jana Smidt and Dana Smidt, both of Houston; grandson, Weston Dorotik; and brother, Pat E. Smidt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Doyle Smidt; and sister-in-law, Lucille Smidt.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Monday, July 21 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Dr. in Houston.

Ross was a devoted family man, always putting his family first. We will miss him dearly, but rejoice that his pain and suffering in this life is finished. We thank all our family and friends for their prayers and support during his illness.
