The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe C.S. Lewis' beloved tale of the four Prevensie children, who step through an old wardrobe in an English country house and find themselves in the never-to-be-forgotten land of Narnia is directed by Katrese Skinner and continues this weekend. General admission $15; $13 for senior citizens, students and groups of 10 or more. Show dates are Aug. 9-10 and 15-17 at the Plaza Theatre in Wharton. Performance times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoons.

St. Andrew/St. Procopius CCD Registration CCD registration is Saturday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10 in the LLC building after Mass in Louise, and the Hillje Hall after each Mass in Hillje. New students or students being confirmed (10th-11th grade) must bring baptism certifi- cate. The fee is $15 per student. Volunteers are needed to work one-hour shifts after each Mass. Louise Cheerleaders Serve Turkey & Dressing The Louise Varsity Cheerleaders' annual turkey and dressing dinner is Sunday, Aug. 10 at St. Andrew's Parish Hall in Hillje. Lifesavers Host 'Big Basket' Silent Auction Lifesavers Relay for Life Team from El Campo Memorial Hospital and Mid Coast Medical Clinic hold a Big Basket Silent Auction in the lobby of Mid Coast Medical Clinic Aug. 11-14, closing at 5:30 p.m. on the 14th. Derby Doll Boosters Ice Cream Social An ice cream social is Monday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. in the new ECHS gym for all current Derby Doll team members, parents and boosters. The Derby Doll Booster Club will meet at 5:30 p.m.

Louise High 2008-2009 Student Schedules Students may go to the high school for schedule changes starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 for 11th-12th grades and Wednesday, Aug. 13 for 9th-10th grades. Freshman orientation is Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. in the high school gym.

Bereavement Support Group Meets Because there's no Wharton County Chapter, the Compassionate Friends, Sugar Land/Southwest Houston Chapter invites Wharton County residents to attend their nonprofit support group for bereaved loved ones of children who have died. ECHS New Student Registration ECHS counselors are holding new student registration in the Guidance Office Aug. 13-19 from 9 a.m. - noon and 1-3 p.m. Registration packets may be picked up in the Guidance Office prior to registration. Students need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian and bring a copy of their birth certificate, social security card, records from previous schools and immunization records. WCJC Foundation 2008 Gala The Wharton County Junior College Foundation's 2008 Gala is Friday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Safari Texas Ranch in Richmond. Tickets are $85 each. Sponsor tables (seating for 8) are $1,500 and $2,500. The gala features a reception, dinner, auctions and a comical performance by the Capital Steps. Tickets went on sale May 1. Lillian's Birthday Memorial Toy Drive Lillian's Birthday 1st Annual Toy Drive will be held during August in memory of Lillian Hansen's birthday. Polka For A Cancer Cure The Dujka Brothers and Red Ravens play Sunday, Aug. 17 from 3-7 p.m. at the Hungerford Community Center. Tickets are $6 each. Proceeds from tickets, refreshments and raffle sales will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Everyone wearing pink or purple will receive a gift. St. Andrew Summer Festival Barbecue beef, sausage and all the trimmings are on sale Sunday, Aug. 17 starting at 11 a.m. Serve yourself in the hall or drive-through plates to-go. Plates are $7. Bulk sales in the kitchen. An auction starts at 12:30 p.m. The festival also includes country store, bake sale, cake walk, games, raffle and music.

Youth Fair Rules & Regulations Under Review The Wharton County Youth Fair holds an informative meeting for the 2009 Creative Arts, Livestock and Poultry Rules and Regulations Thursday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Director's Room of the Office Complex at the fairgrounds. Brick Deadline Nears For Heritage Center Imprinted bricks are being ordered to be ready and in place as soon as the El Campo Heritage Center opens this fall. They can include the name of the purchaser, a business, graduating class or any honoree.
