Ike alters Leader-News deadlines

Due to uncertainty about weather conditions that Hurricane Ike may or may not create in the Fort Bend County area, management of the press in Rosenberg that prints the El Campo Leader-News and Wharton Journal-Spectator has ordered the newspapers printed Thursday at 5 p.m. rather than the usual Friday night time slot. As a result, El Campo, Wharton, Louise, East Bernard and Boling football game stories will not be published in this weekend's newspapers, but an effort will be made to get abbreviated coverage up on leadernews. com and journal-spectator. com should games be played Thursday or Friday nights.

The decision on when to play those games was not to be made until today.

What this means for advertisers is the El Campo and Wharton newspapers will need to have display and classified ad orders into the newspapers by 5 p.m. today.

Stories for Saturday's paper must also be submitted no later than 5 p.m. today.

This is the third time in five weeks Wharton County newspapers staffs and the Rosenberg press crew have had to change deadlines to avoid threats from Hurricanes Edouard, Hanna and now Ike.
