Czech Heritage Society Hosts Display The Wharton County chapter of the Czech Heritage Society has an ongoing display of crystal, Kroj, fabrics and other items from the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia at the Civic Center in El Campo. All are invited to visit the display.

THURSDAY, OCT. 23

WCJC Chamber Singers In Concert Wharton County Junior College's Chamber Singers present a concert Thursday, Oct. 23. Students will open with The Star Spangled Banner and end with some bouncy boogie-woogie. The performance is 7:30 p.m. the Horton Foote Theatre in the Duson Hansen Fine Arts Building on the Wharton campus. Cost is $4 and students with ID are free.

Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken & Dressing Allen Chapel A.M.E. holds a chicken fried steak or chicken and dressing meal Friday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 202 Sentinel Drive. Plates are $7. Call 979-332-1986 or 979-332-2621 for pick up or delivery.

St. Philip School PTC Halloween Carnival St. Philip School hosts its annual PTC Halloween Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 25 from noon-5 p.m. at the KC Hall on Armory Road in El Campo. Costume contest begins at 2 p.m. Food, games and prizes for all children.

Mission Trip To Assist Ike Victims First Baptist Church of Louise heads to Galveston Saturday, Oct. 25 for a mission trip to assist Hurricane Ike victims. Anyone wishing to donate items should contact Kim Watson at 979-637-0051.

PMBC Host Musical And Anniversary Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, 409 W. Second, will have a pre-musical Saturday, Oct. 25 asking all soloist, choirs, Praise dancers and male choruses to come for fellowship at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be John Phillip of Houston.

First Presbyterian Fall Festival/Carnival First Presbyterian Church, 312 Depot hosts its Fall Festival/ Carnival on Sunday, Oct. 26 from 2-6 p.m. Costume contest at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary. Bring kid-decorated pumpkin to enter in pumpkin contest. Food, fun and games for everyone.

Citizen of the Year Nominations Sought The annual El Campo Chamber of Commerce awards banquet is three months away, but now is the time for the community to start submitting nominations for Citizen of the Year. Entries must be turned into the Chamber office by Friday, Nov. 14. The selection committee meets Tuesday, Nov. 18 to review nominations and select the 2008 Citizen of the Year.

Project Graduation Has Gun Raffle El Campo Project Graduation is holding a gun raffle. Tickets are $20 each. Fall Festival Trunk or Treat Night First Baptist Church of Louise hosts a Fall Festival "Trunk or Treat" for the community Wednesday, Oct. 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. on the church grounds at 608 First Street in Louise.

Special Education Records Available The El Campo, Louise and Rice Special Education Office ask that if your child received their last special education services during the 1999-2000 school year, to come by Meadow Lane Resource Center Special Education Dept., 2620 Meadow Lane, Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m.-4:15 p.m. through Oct. 31 to pick up records. Records not picked up will be destroyed.

WCJC Choral Dinner A 'Caribbean Getaway' Wharton County Junior College Concert Choir and Chamber Singers perform its 17th Annual Choral Dinner/Music Revue - A Caribbean Getaway on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Pioneer Student Center, Wharton campus, beginning at 7 p.m. There is a silent auction. Dinner includes prime rib, twice-baked potatoes with home-made desserts. Proceeds benefit the choir's 2009 performance aboard the Carnival cruise ship Fantasy. Tickets are $20/person. Corporate sponsorships are $300 for a table of eight. For information call 532-6300.

B&G Snag, Tag & Brag Dinner Rescheduled Due to Hurricane Ike, the Boys & Girls Club of El Campo has changed its annual Snag, Tag & Brag event to Thursday, Nov. 6.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered. Memorial Bricks For Your Veteran Based on requests, American Legion Post 251 is enlarging its Veterans Memorial site to include 160 additional memorial bricks at $100 each. Early Help For Children Important Region III Education Service Center Early Childhood Intervention Program provides support and services to families with children, birth to age 3, with developmental delays and disabilities. Free Night Classes Available Free Adult Basic Education/GED/English as a Second Language classes are offered here by Wharton County Junior College. Day classes are held at the Adult Education Building, 802 Depot, Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. (call 543-3949) and at the El Campo Housing Authority, 403-A Ricebird Lane, Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Classes in English as a Second Language are held Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Call 979-532-6552 for information on classes at the housing authority, or for information on all classes, call 979-532-6552 or 1-800-561-9252, ext. 6552.

Fundraiser For 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab The El Campo Band Parents' Booster Club and Don Davis Motor Company have teamed up to give supporters a chance to win a 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 1500 pickup. Tickets at $5 each are available at all ECHS home football games and at various activities around the area. Funds go to band members for scholarships and educational activities as part of the Home Town Scholarship Program. For information call Wanda Evanicky at 979- 578-0793.
