Wharton County DAV/Auxiliary Meeting Wharton County DAV and Auxiliary 72 hold their monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 1 at the VFW Hall. Covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m.

HOPE Group Meeting The HOPE Group meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1 at the Church of Christ, 315 E. Calhoun. HOPE is a support group which meets the first Monday of every month and is open to anyone who has suffered a loss due to death, divorce, job, etc.

ECHS Blood Drive A blood drive is set for Monday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the auditorium at El Campo High School. To schedule an appointment, call Kim Couvillion at 543-6341.

TUESDAY, DEC. 2

American Red Cross CPR/FAB Classes The American Red Cross holds an Adult CPR courses from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2; Infant and Child CPR class from 5-10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 and First Aid Basic is 6-10 p.m. Dec. 16. Cost is $22, and all classes take place at 2200 7th Street, first floor, Bay City. There will also be an Adult/Infant and Child CPR course from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at First Baptist Church, 507 N. Fulton in Wharton. CPR certifications are valid for one year. Five Star Fair Fund Meeting Five Star Fair Fund meets Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the El Campo Chamber meeting room. All 4-H or FFA clubs must have a representative present to discuss new business and changes.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 3

Pork Steak Dinner Fundraiser The St. Philip Catholic School 8th Grade Washington Trip students host a pork steak dinner (pick up only) Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the KC Hall on Armory Road. Tickets are $7 and available by contacting a 8th grade student. The trip and/or fundraisers are not sponsored by St. Philip Catholic School.

Lifesavers Host Christmas Silent Auction The Lifesavers Team from El Campo Memorial Hospital and Mid Coast Medical Clinic kicks off its 2009 Relay for Life fundraiser season with a Christmas Silent Auction, Dec. 3, 4 and 5 in the clinic's lobby. Bidding ends at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. All proceeds benefit American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

THURSDAY, DEC. 4

WCJC Choir Christmas Concert The WCJC Music Department's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers present their free annual Christmas Candlelight Concert Thursday, Dec. 4 at the First Baptist Church, 507 N. Fulton, Wharton, starting at 7:30 p.m. The concert traditionally ends with the singing of the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah." Scores will be provided. For information, call 532-6300.

Christmas Parade 'Country Christmas' Theme The 22nd Annual Christmas Parade is Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The theme will be "Country Christmas." Entry forms are available online at www.elcampochamber. com or at the Chamber office. Entries due by Monday, Dec. 1.

Open House At El Campo Heritage Center The El Campo Heritage Center hosts an Open House Thursday, Dec. 4 from 3-6 p.m. Come see this new facility at 803 Fahrenthold next to the Boys & Girls Club.

Kettle Korn And Hot Chocolate Available Bonnie's Barnyard sells fresh popped Sweet Kountry Kettle Korn and hot chocolate at Walgreens parking lot during the Christmas Parade, Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5- 10 p.m. Proceeds go to help support the animals at the barnyard.

FRIDAY, DEC. 5

Stew Supper And Auction For DAV Everyday Heroes Inc. holds a stew supper and auction for Wharton County Chapter No. 72, Disabled American Veterans on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Hall on CR 306. There will be silent and live auctions. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Pilot Club 6th Annual Breakfast With Santa The Pilot Club hosts its 6th annual Breakfast with Santa from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. John Catholic Church Parish Hall. Professional photos with Santa, booths, games, raffle and breakfast tickets at $5 each. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. For tickets call any Pilot Club member or 543-2709.

Entertainment Needed For Christmas Mall The 21st Annual Christmas Mall is Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the El Campo Civic Center. The Chamber is looking for entertainment to perform during the two-day event.

The Oblate Club Host Annual Games Party The Oblate Club of St. John's Church in New Taiton hosts its annual Games Party Sunday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Taiton Community Center. There will be games, door prizes, a raffle (with a quilt), a mini raffle, an auction, a silent auction and plenty of good refreshments.

Youth Football Assn. Seeks Board Members The El Campo Youth Football Association is accepting applications for new board members. Request an application from ecyfa@yahoo.com. Applications must be received by Dec. 10. Election of new board members is Dec. 15.

St. Philip Catholic School Christmas Pageant The St. Philip Catholic School Christmas Pageant is Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the El Campo High School auditorium. Everyone is invited, donations appreciated.

Miracle On 34th Street Performances El Campo High School presents the holiday classic "Miracle on 34th Street" at 7 p.m. Dec. 12-13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at Ricebird Auditorium. Tickets are $3.

Scholastic Book Fair At Library The Northside Elementary Library hosts a Scholastic Book Fair Dec. 12 and Dec. 15-17 from 8:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with extended hours to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.

STLA Winter Festival Longhorn Show The STLA Winter Festival Longhorn Show is Saturday, Dec. 13 for open haltered and trophy longhorns and Sunday, Dec. 14 for youth haltered longhorns. Free admission. Show starts at 8 a.m. each day at the Wharton County Youth Fairgrounds in Crescent.

Ricebird Band Booster Bake Sale The Ricebird Band Parents Booster Club sponsors a bake sale from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at the El Campo Walmart. Donated baked goods should be at Walmart by 8:30 a.m. For information call Wanda Evanicky at 578-0793.

ECMH Hosts Dec. 16 Blood Drive Blood Drive at El Campo Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 12:30- 5:30 p.m. in the hospital's front parking lot. Bring a photo ID. T-shirts for all donors.

Louise Christmas Lighting Contest Call the water office at 648-2615 to enter the Louise Beautification Committee's annual Christmas Lighting Contest. The event will be judged Dec. 16; prizes will be awarded.

Band Booster Organization Meeting The Louise Band Booster organization meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the band hall in Louise.

Boys & Girls Club Basketball Registration Registration for basketball is 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. until Dec. 19 at the Boys & Girls Club. Cost is $45 to play plus $20 for membership if not a club member; $10 late registration fee after Dec. 19. Coaches hold a draft Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and then will contact players. Food Drive Seeks Contributions The El Campo Area Aggie Moms are participating in the Lack's Trim-A-Tree contest. All Aggies are invited to contribute toward the food drive for the Blessing Cup Storehouse by donating dry goods or money at Lack's in support of the Aggie Tree.

Project Grad Senior Serve Tables Available The Class of 2009 Project Graduation Senior Serve is Sunday, Jan. 25. White tables are $200 or $25 per seat and Red tables are $280 or $35 per seat. Memorial Bricks For Your Veteran Based on requests, American Legion Post 251 is enlarging its Veterans Memorial site to include 160 additional memorial bricks at $100 each. Early Help For Children Important Region III Education Service Center Early Childhood Intervention Program provides support and services to families with children, birth to age 3, with developmental delays and disabilities. Veterans Service Officer Hours The office of Wharton County Veterans Service Officer Harvey H. Stelzel Jr. is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. The office is located at 1017 N. Alabama Road in Wharton. Phone 532-1311.

Free Night Classes Available Free Adult Basic Education/GED/English as a Second Language classes are offered here by Wharton County Junior College. Day classes are held at the Adult Education Building, 802 Depot, Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. (call 543-3949) and at the El Campo Housing Authority, 403-A Ricebird Lane, Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Classes in English as a Second Language are held Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Call 979-532-6552 for information on classes at the housing authority, or for information on all classes, call 979-532-6552 or 1-800-561-9252, ext. 6552.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Available The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help financially disadvantaged people in Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered.
