106 Years Celebration This Sunday

Everyone is invited to join the last worship service at St. Paul UMC, 211 E. Third, 10 a.m. Sunday, June 23 to help celebrate 106 years of ministry. During worship, stories and memories of being part of St. Paul United Methodist Church will be shared. Afterwards, join the regular “Lunch Bunch” at Mikeska’s, 22730 US-59.

Hear Praise Music at Mt. Sinai

A musical extravaganza will be held at Mt. Sinai M. Baptist Church, 1010 Grace, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 23 featuring It’s Not About Us. All welcome to worship and sing praise.

Free Summer Meals For Kids

El Campo Independent School District is providing healthy summer meals for kids ages 18 and younger at Hutchins Elementary, 1006 Roberts. Breakfast is from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8 - Wednesday, July 3 and Monday, July 15 - Thursday, Aug. 1. For information call 543-4262.

All Ages Can Register

Registration for the El Campo Branch Library’s Summer Reading Program starts Saturday, June 1. The theme is “A Universe of Stories” and is open to all library patrons ages 6 months to age 99+. Patrons can earn prizes by checking out and reading library books. Summer flyers for events are available at the front desk. The library is located at 200 W. Church. Bingo Held At American Legion

American Legion Post 251 hosts bingo games every Friday with doors opening at 5 p.m., card sales at 6 p.m. and games at 7 p.m. Snack bar will be open.

Have Questions About Medicare?

State Health Insurance Assistance Program Counselor Alex Rischan will be at the El Campo Branch Library every third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to offer advice and aid in making sense of Medicare. One-on-one counseling will be given at no cost to you.

Join Wharton’s Walkabouts

The Wharton Downtown Business Association is launching Third Thursday Walkabouts. Visitors can engage in a game of checkers or 42, Scrabble or Yahtzee, take in a yoga class, read a book, shop a little, enjoy complimentary wine at select merchant shops or grab a bite to eat. Third Thursday Walkabouts are the third Thursday of each month in downtown Wharton from 4 - 7 p.m. The public is invited, parking is free.

Resale Store Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed at the Crisis Center Resale Store, located at 116 E. First in El Campo. If you would be willing to volunteer a few hours a week please call 541-5797 or go by the store.

Manna Meals Offers Food, Fellowship

Manna Meals is offered at no cost every Monday and Thursday from 5 - 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Meals are prepared then served by local congregations at 500 Foerster (between Fourth and Fifth Streets in El Campo). Library Introduces New Program

The El Campo Branch Library has reading group which is free and open to everyone. Short stories will be read and discussed in Spanish. The group meets the second Saturday of each month at 9:15 a.m. in the El Campo Branch Library’s Mayor’s Room. If you are learning Spanish and need the practice or if you speak Spanish fluently and like to read, this group is for you. For information, call 979-543-2362. Heritage Center Offers Exercise, Bingo

The Heritage Center, 803 Fahrenthold, a non-profit organization, is open to men and women 50 and older for a fee. The center, open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., offers use of exercise machines, “Silver Sneakers” chair exercise sessions for those 63 years and older, pool table, dominoes, lending library, lap top computers, games, bingo and opportunities to volunteer. Covered dish luncheons are held once a month.

Museum Has Twilight Tuesdays

The El Campo Museum of Natural History will host Twilight Tuesdays the first Tuesday of each month as the facility stays open until 7:30 p.m. For information about Twilight Tuesdays or other programs at the museum, call Director Cheri McGuirk at 543-6885.

Library Books For Sale

All branches of the Wharton County Library System have started updating their children’s collections. Most books that are removed from the collection are given to our Friends of the Library Bookstore, which sells them for 10 cents to the public. The bookstore is located at the Main Library in Wharton, and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
