El Campo ISD has terminated a substitute teacher after she recorded pornographic material from a classroom/workroom at the high school and then uploaded the footage to a pornographic website.

Employed with the district three months, the incident happened in May. No students were present when the incident occurred, according to Superintendent Kelly Waters.

District administration was made aware of the incident last week after receiving an anonymous tip, Waters said.

The incident was reported to the El Campo Police Department and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

The district posted this statement on its social media page at around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

It reads, “The district is aware that an improper, criminal incident involving a substitute teacher occurred at ECHS. The incident involved a singular substitute teacher and no student or other district staff were involved. The district has terminated the substitute’s employment and is seeking legal advice on this specific incident.

“The district continues to hold the safety and well being of our students and staff as our top priority.”

ECPD was called and an officer was sent to the high school, but no official report was filed with the department by the district, according to Chief Terry Stanphill.

“We could not identify any crime that occurred, and we consulted with the district attorney’s office. I think we can all agree it was very wrong, but we couldn’t identify any current state law that was violated,” Stanphill said.

“I think it would be up to the school to handle it as a policy violation. They’ve already taken action, and it sounds like they took appropriate action,” he added.
