Room rental fees at the El Campo Civic Center were waived for primary and general election voting in 2020 and 2022 during Monday’s city council session.

The request to use the Myatt Room came from Wharton County Elections Administration chief Cindy Richter.

“We had been at North Meadow Lane, but we lost that. We’re trying to get back to the north side of town,” she told the council.

The unanimous vote sets aside a $150 per day fee for Election Day voting on the four days, two in 2020 and two in 2022, as well as a $100 deposit.

“It’s only for Election Day ... not early voting when we are there for two weeks,” Richter said.

Nothing is booked in the Myatt Room on the four days. The rest of the Civic Center can still be used while voting takes place. The Myatt room is the smallest one available.
