Garden Club Holds Meeting

The Wharton Garden Club, including members from other towns in the county, will meet 9 - 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9 at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church (parish hall), 207 Bob-o-Link Lane in Wharton. Brunch refreshments are provided. Master gardener Patti Daniel will present the program Season in Review. Visitors are welcome. Membership is $10 per year.

2019-2020 School Registration Now Open

Myatt Elementary, 501 W. Webb, 2019-2020 school registration for new Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 - 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 and 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, May 24. Pre-Kindergarten students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019. Parents or legal guardians need to bring original birth certificate, shot record, social security card, photo ID (parents) and proof of residency. Pre-Kindergarten students will need to bring income records for the last 30 days for household or SNAP letter to qualify. Students Can Test Out Of Classes

El Campo students can obtain credit in a course or grade level via “Credit by Examination” without prior instruction in the course(s) being tested. A student in Grades 6-12 can attempt to test out of a class. Tests will be given in Victoria through Region 3 Education Service Center on Wednesday, June 19; Thursday, June 20, Friday; June 21, Wednesday, July 10; Thursday, July 11 and Friday; July 14 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Applications at El Campo High School Counselors’ Office, 600 W. Registration Open For Bowling Tournament

El Campo Youth Bowling League presents bowling tournaments Saturday, June 1. Adult/child tournament includes three games, $25 before May 10, $30 after May 10. Those 5-8 years, 9-12 years and 13-17 years (as of May 1) may enter. Doubles tournament registration is at 1 p.m. and is $50 per team. The tournament starts at 2 p.m. There will be cash prizes. Heritage Center Offers Exercise, Bingo

The Heritage Center, 803 Fahrenthold, a non-profit organization, is open to men and women 50 and older for a fee. The center, open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., offers use of exercise machines, “Silver Sneakers” chair exercise sessions for those 63 years and older, pool table, dominoes, lending library, lap top computers, games, bingo and opportunities to volunteer. Covered dish luncheons are held once a month.

Texas Legal Services Center is a nonprofit legal aid in the El Campo Branch of the Wharton County Library. The clinic is every third Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Visit to register in advance.

Manna Meals Offers Food, Fellowship

Free English Classes At The Library

Library Books For Sale

All branches of the Wharton County Library System have started updating their children’s collections. Most books that are removed from the collection are given to our Friends of the Library Bookstore, which sells them for 10 cents to the public. The bookstore is located at the Main Library in Wharton, and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They sell children’s books, as well as adult hardback and paperbacks.

Bingo Held At American Legion

American Legion Post 251 hosts bingo games every Friday with doors opening at 5 p.m., card sales at 6 p.m. and games at 7 p.m. Snack bar will be open.

Library Introduces New Program

The El Campo Branch Library is starting a new reading group which is free and open to everyone. Short stories will be read and discussed in Spanish. The discussion group will meet the second Saturday of each month at 9:15 a.m. in the El Campo Branch Library’s Mayor’s Room. If you are learning Spanish and need the practice or if you speak Spanish fluently and like to read, this group is for you. For information, call 979-543-2362.
