Honoring Souls: Families spend time in reflection, prayer for lost loved ones

Posted: Saturday, November 4, 2017 12:00 am

Visitors celebrate All Souls Day at Holy Cross Cemetery in El Campo each Nov. 2 to honor and pray for their loved ones who’ve passed away. Their prayers, they say, will allow their loved ones’ souls to rise to heaven.

Pews of camping chairs were assembled piece by piece Thursday as Catholics congregated at the cemetery’s center and encircling the large stone crucifix where the priest’s altar was arranged. Some members remained far off near the resting place of their loved ones as Mass began. A piano accompanied a small choir singing a prayer to the saints, asking them to be there when they too die.
