With all votes in the 2019 Best of Wharton County contest tallied finally and multiple ties addressed, the El Campo Leader-News staff is now putting everything together in a winners magazine coming out later this month.

The publication will be something people will be able to keep and use as a reference throughout the year. At the same time contest results are published, the website will announce winners and then remain active throughout the year.

“It took some time to compile these results because, in the process, we discovered several areas where votes weren’t initially clear. There are several businesses with locations both in El Campo and Wharton, for example, and counters needed to make sure which one actually won,” El Campo Leader-News Publisher Shannon Crabtree said.

The actual count, like the compiling of nominations, was done by a contracted company.

“We’re sorry for the delay between the vote and the publication of winners, but we felt the results were too important to rush,” Crabtree said. “We appreciate the public’s patience. I think the upcoming magazine will be worth it.”

The 2019 Best of Wharton County contest is a joint effort between the El Campo Leader-News and the Wharton Journal-Spectator.
