EAGLE LAKE – Rice producers will have the opportunity to tour a research station, hear about insect/weed/disease/plant nutrient management, varietal testing and rice breeding at the free 45th Annual Eagle Lake Rice Field Day this month.

The field day is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the David R. Wintermann Rice Research Station on FM 102 just north of Eagle Lake.

The field day is planned and coordinated by the Colorado County Rice Committee, which is comprised of local producers who meet throughout the year to identify topics for the event relevant and applicable to producers in the area.

The evening program will be held right after the field day ends at the Eagle Lake Community Center. Steve Linscombe will give a brief update concerning the publication of the USA Rice Sustainability Report followed by a discussion led by Pam West and Maclane Peters concerning Texas rice exports.

Also on the agenda are Joe Outlaw who will provide an update on farm policy issues and Ted Wilson who will share some observations concerning climate change data and potential impacts on rice production.

A catered meal will be provided at the evening program. Two continuing education units will be offered to all licensed pesticide applicators who attend the tour and evening program.
