Valentine Celebration

Eula Mae Crowell (left) and Patricia Lindley (right) pick out some treats at a Valentine’s Day-themed celebration hosted by Louise’s branch of the Wharton County Public Library Tuesday. Crowell, Lindley and dozens of other attendees visited, socialized and snacked on cookies, cakes and other goodies starting at 10 a.m. Library staff hosted the event as a thank-you to patrons of the branch, which originally opened on Feb. 28, 1942.  In 2019, the small library had 9,821 visitors and in the last seven years, the branch hosted 707 children’s and adults’ programs with 25,000 attendees. “We would not be able to do anything without our incredible library staff, county officials, donors and supporters,” Wharton County Library Director Elene Gedevani said Tuesday.
